Comments on the show Doomsday Preppers

There is a show I caught this week on Hulu called Doomsday Preppers. Believe it or not it is a National Geographic production featuring Americans preparing for the end of the world. Being an big sci-fi fan, small scale farmer, semi writer, etc. I was intrigued. Bad thing do happen. In my lifetime there have been many billion dollar natural disaster events. There has been a war somewhere in the world. In short bad things do happen. There is risk in anyone’s life. It is a matter of identifying the risks and the probability and impact of them. If you do this correctly you will come up with levels of risk. For example, if you drive a car there are maintenance risks requiring you to do things like replace tires when treed is worn out. There is avoiding distractions like texting while driving. These are all risks associated with driving. Driving could be considered a higher risk activity because of the number of people killed and injured each year. So if you drive then these would likely be one of the first risks you would plan for. The same goes for where you live. Fire is always a real threat. One of the highest risk areas is the kitchen. So it is likely you have a WORKING smoke detector in the proper places and a fire extinguisher handy in the kitchen. True preparedness is like pealing an onion. You take care of them one by one based on impact to your life and probability of the risk happening. If done correctly you should have several levels and these levels will change as the probabilities of the risk changes. I will have a lot more comments on Doomsday Preppers in the future.
